Transparent pricing

There are plenty of reasons why fast fashion is good,

  • -       The economic benefit
  • -       The accessibility it provides for the concumers
  • -       The jobs provided
  • -       Etc.

However we have to understand, as consumers, the effect fast fashion is having on the global industry.

  • -       Poor wages
  • -       Ill working conditions
  • -       The high level of deaths over the more recent years in factories and the cotton farming
  • -       The waste, and land fill

So as consumers, we have to take responsibility for our damaging habits in order for the brands to take the right change.

My idea is that of transparent pricing, similar to the concept Everlane promotes. It’s the idea of being able to see where the money your spending on a product is going to in order to see your paying a fair wage, and price of the materials.  This would stop poor wages, therefore working conditions, which would result in a decrease in deaths or eliminate any danger althoghter, and this would result in less landfill. Whilst still giving brands the opportunity to make profit, keeping fast fashion.

My idea would be to clearly mark on every label, a break down of the cost of production. So either is has to be a rule enforced by the government, or something that as conscious consumers, we demand for.
